Proverbs 3:5-8
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.
Trust in the Lord; how often have all of us been guilty of NOT trusting the Lord? All too often, we have not stopped to pray and to listen patiently for His answer. I know I am constantly trying to ‘fix’ things myself, forgetting to talk to the Father and listen for His answer. Because I have not stopped to ask Him, I have made things more complicated and come up with a far worse answer.
Azaria had trouble with trust as well. Remember when God told Michael to secretly hide her away in a cave on a mountain before the flood? Then her reaction when she saw Hagar and Ishmael dying of thirst or Abraham starting to sacrifice Isaac to do God’s will? God had plans not to harm but to do good; Azaria, despite having witnessed God’s goodness, didn’t stop to trust Him. How often do we do that?
Do you really trust God? I have asked myself that question and am slowly remembering to do just that. When I do actually remember to pray, things turn out better, and I have more peace. Do you remember the story of the widow and the flour? 1 Kings 17:11-15
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”
12 So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a [a]jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’”
15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days.
The widow trusted Elijah and was fed until the drought ended.
Think of the apostles, how they trusted Jesus. Think of David and how he trusted God.
Psalm 9:10
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
We are our Father’s children, and He loves each one of us with a love we cannot begin to understand. Let your trust in Him grow until it eclipses all else, and that trust will bring you great joy, great peace.
