Life is filled with unknowns. As we face those unknowns we must deal with questions. We must address the most important issues first. You might ask, “What is the most important question I will ever ask in my life?” It must center on the being that has created the universe. That question is: “How can a simple person have a relationship with an utterly holy God who cannot tolerate sin?”
“I am lost! I am a sinner! How can an utterly holy God relate with me?”
The Bible, our source of ultimate truth and wisdom answers that question. God had a plan to allow that relationship to happen. You see it throughout the Bible.
God sent His Son, Jesus, to live a sinless life and substitute His life for payment for our sinful lives. We can, by acknowledging that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, admitting our sins and turning away from them, and asking Him to come live in us, begin to a vital and active relationship with God. This is not a quick prayer we can say and then continue living as we have. We will change; the Holy Spirit will enter us and help that change take place.
As believers, our lives will not get easier; life’s trials will still impact us. What will change is our reaction to those challenges. As we draw closer to God through daily Bible reading, prayer, and meditation on His word, we will realize that this life is but a steppingstone to eternal life with Him, in heaven. We will bring honor and glory to God, our Creator, by our daily living and reaction to life’s challenges. He loves us so much that He sent His Son to shed His blood on the cross so that we could be with Him as coheirs with His Son.
Joy begins in our relationship with our Creator. It is more than happiness—deeper, lasting, and unfailing. True joy is found in our relationship with the Almighty and rests within our very souls.
I lived the first 30 years of my life not knowing God. Oh, I thought I did, but there was no joy, only selfishness. Empty Hail Marys’ and Our Fathers’. Then I came to know Him. Then my life began. Then joy entered in. I’ll talk more about this in coming blogs, but know that a deep, loving relationship with God will bring you a joy you have never known.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1 NKJV
